Here is a gallery of my coverage of Palin’s State College visit. This will soon also be published on GANT Daily, but for non-readers and readers of this update page you can view it here a few hours earlier.

This photo was taken on the same trip as the last TWP. They were a bunch of pumpkins for sale by the Waltz Farm. For years my family would get several hundred pount pumpkins from there, but Mr. Waltz retired. This year, 2008, he decided to grow pumpkins again on a whim.
Sadly, though, he has already said he doesn’t plan on growing them next year.
This photo also may show up on GANT Daily at some point as I submitted it for the Photo of the Week when it was first taken. As of writing this it has been about two weeks, and it hasn’t been used that I know of so I decided no harm in posting it here. It will about four by time this post is viewable to the public so maybe it has popped up sense.

I apologize for the downtime. My host switched servers due to server instability, but I wasn’t notified until it was already in progress. Before that there had been periodic outages, but this should have fixed those.

I took this shot back while I was covering Cow Chip Bingo for Philipsburg’s Heritage Days. Not knowing where the parking lot for the football stadium I was, I ended up taking a round-a-bout path to the field along this stream.
Then I noticed someone had left this bottled water, littered with the bottle of water, next to the polluted stream of water that would have most people these days nervous to drink from.

Saved the most gimmicky for last of the first set of three. I suspect next week I’ll take a break from the light stuff. Did some minor experimentation with a LASER that just didn’t turn out that great. So I decided to try another approach.
I won’t lie. This will likely be a fair submission if I can improve upon this using film.

A second photo from that night’s experimentation. Simple trick. Actually, I suspect most would simply go “huh” when looking at this without even noticing the glowing bulb isn’t casting any light on the lamp itself.
As with most of my photos this is all done without post processing.

For one reason or another you have Windows XP, and if you are like the state of Maine likely to remain so till 2010, here is some useful advice should you find after either changing computers or some OS trouble getting a “Access is Denied”. With pictures.
The primary cause of this is a folder set to private, which locks it to your account. Should you need to use a new account because your old one was rendered unusable ever again these folders are now cut off to you. However, there is a way to recover them. Unfortunately, you will need Windows XP Pro. Home just won’t cut it.
Step 1

First go to the folder containing the one with the error. Technically you can pick any folder, but this is for the ease of explaining the steps.
Go to “Tools” and down to Folder Options.
Step 2

The tab you want is “View”. Scroll all the way down to the end of the “Advance Settings” to “Use simple file sharing (Recomended)”. You want to uncheck it.

I recomend for now if you have many folders in need of recovering to “apply to all folders”. When done, recheck this and apply to all folders.
It is this series of steps why Windows XP Pro is required for this. You aren’t allowed to change this option in lesser versions.
Step 3

Right click on the folder, and go to “Properties”.
Step 4

Go to “Security”. This only appears with simple file sharing turned off.
Step 5

Click on “Advanced” as indicated by the blue-ish circle.
Step 6

Go to the “Owner” tab.
Step 7

I recomend choosing Administrators if you want to be sure to avoid this happening again in the future, but as you see here I am a glutton for punishment.
The End
So that should solve that problem should it arise.

Trail testing photo
As of writing this, these next three Twice Weekly Photos will just be some simple light experiments. After reading through the latest Rangefinder magazine, specifically the article on Charlie Cho, I decided to dust off my light gallery. It wasn’t just the wonderful photos b Mr. Cho, but the light trail photo on this Brooks Institute page.
The reasoning behind these three, and who knows how many more, light photos are an attempt to figure out how some of the shots Mr. Cho shot for myself. Namely the photo on page three of the linked article.
Now, the Brooks photo is at first impressive as I tried to think of how it could have been done. At first I considered a double exposure with two trips down the road. After closer inspection I suspected two vehicles, one exposure, following closely behind each other. As I write this, I say one vehicle. Probably an SUV or truck with the headlights and floodlights on.
The article on page three still has myself stumped. All his photos except for that one I believe I could, though with effort, could imitate to some degree and name the tricks. So until I hear from you readers that you are tired of these photos, or I give up, odds are most of the TWP will be neat results in my experimentation.
